The wheels come off the campaign… well, one of them

Fundraiser yesterday evening. Great success and great fun. Though I was working through the whole thing, it has to be said, so didn’t get to relax too much. Was organized entirely by some of the members, who approached me to do it. The generosity and commitment of some people I have met along the way will stay with me long after the campaign posters are packed away for the next time. I said a few words, I think they were ok. And I think people enjoyed themselves, which is the main thing. We had something of a celebrity drop by too, which was fantastic. I missed the opening of the Rathmines festival unfortunately, but I can’t be everywhere. How do politicians do it?

Turns out I need a new wheel for the bike. Not great but better now than two weeks out, I suppose. Popped into HQ to drop off some things. Had a chat with one of the guys there. It was good. He’s smart and it reassured me on a couple of things. Plus he gave me a great idea for something without even realizing it. I scribbled it on the back of an envelope while it was still fresh and off I went.

This evening we did a meet and greet outside Donnybrook Fair. Overcast but no rain, thankfully. Went well, and we had a new volunteer who I think is going to be really good.

Going to be a busy weekend. Posters are ready for collection but I have nowhere to store them. Needs to be dry, secure and somewhere we can get access at any time of day or night. Not easy to find and I’ve only got a few hours to do it. Added to that is the problem that I’m ‘meeting and greeting’ when they’re meant to be dropped off. Sunday is a flyer drop, though we advertised it a bit late and I’m concerned about numbers. And at some stage we’ve got to design the next two flyers. Monday marks six weeks out from election day, and the thought is making me a little queasy.
