What a weekend. We tried something new (again) on Friday night. As the weather was miserable, we decided it was a good night for a bit of experimentation. Took off on a pub crawl around the area and it was great fun. Carrying the posters, giving people stickers. Met a lot of people along the way and by the time we got to our last pub (O’Briens, Leeson Street), I was exhausted.
Saturday started early with a car boot sale down in Sandymount, followed by a walk down Sandymount Strand. After that we headed on our way for some meet and greets, arriving back at our poster base on Sandymount Green some five hours later. Saturdays are great because you get to meet so many people. We had some new volunteers too and it all added to the buzz. All that was missing was the weather.
Managed to lie down for 45 minutes before heading off to our campaign party in McSorley’s, Ranelagh. It was a great success and I have never seen the place so packed. We were also treated to a drop-in by two of the most senior politicians in the country, which was really something. The whole night gave me a boost after what was a long and wet week on the campaign trail. Woke up Sunday morning with a new sense of self and ready to get to work.
Ss had organized a guerrilla tag tournament around the area for Sunday afternoon. Again, something new to try and Sunday was the day for it. Conditions could have been better but off we went regardless. I don’t know how effective it was but I really enjoyed it. Try playing tag rugby with an Eoghan Murphy poster tied to your back – it’s not easy! We got some great photos and will put them up here.
Sunday evening, we sent a few postering teams out (for repairs) while I touched base with one of our advisers. What was meant to be a quick, one-hour meeting lasted about three hours as we went through every aspect of the campaign. Focused on the logistics of the last days. Crucial stuff really.
