The final push

Posted October 2nd, 2009

I had wanted to do more. But I guess that’s always the way with a campaign, with anything in fact. We finished out our last few canvasses in Ranelagh, all extremely positive. And yesterday, on the eve of the poll, myself, George Lee, Enda Kenny, Lucinda Creighton and Neale Richmond (Cllr), together with a group of volunteers, went to the LUAS station on Stephen’s Green for one final push. We didn’t get much of a response I felt, but from my experience, you don’t the day before a vote. People are done, they’ve had enough (certainly some of the team had). What is needed then is to remind people to turn out and so I switched tack a bit and we did just that.

I cycled off uncertain. Wanting to be 100% assured that Yes would carry the day, but wary of the possibility that it might just not, despite my optimism.

Off now to vote. Will be interesting to see what the turnout is at this stage.
