Water Restrictions – latest

Posted January 7th, 2011

DCC Water Restrictions  (as of 13.00 Friday 7th January 2011)

The situation is continuing to improve, and drinking water storage levels in the city’s reservoirs continues to rise.  Restrictions will have to continue being imposed for the up coming weekend.  Following this a further review will take place on Monday, and we may be  in a position to start lifting the restrictions on a phased basis, however  as schools and colleges return after their Christmas break, their impact on water demand will have to be monitored.  This further increase will be monitored over the initial days of the week and a fuller picture of their impact will be known by mid week upon which a longer term program can be drawn up.

Broken mains are being found and fixed and this will help improve the situation. Many of these have been reported by members of the public and we ask that people continue to assist us in this regard(contact details are given below), as well as by reducing their consumption of water in every possible way. Updated details of the restrictions through to Monday (10th Jan) are set out below.

The restrictions are being reviewed on an ongoing basis and alterations are made where possible so as to minimise the impact on consumers.

A large number of internal leaks have already been identified on properties empty over the holiday period. All key holders throughout the city should return to their premises, especially schools, as soon as possible to check for leaks on their property.

Tankers have been sent to the following locations Friday 7th January 2011

  • Cabra

These locations may change in response to need. We would ask consumers to bring their own containers.

The Civil Defence are providing invaluable assistance in dealing with nursing homes, hospitals and other vulnerable consumers.

The following locations may experience loss of supply due to localised problems.

  LondonBridge Road
  Park Crescent
  Kimmage Road West
  Railway Street
  Margaruite Road
  North Strand
  Collins Ave.

Parts of Crumlin

Lorcan O’Toole Avenue

Dublin City Council appeals to the owners/operators of car washes which use mains water to discontinue their use for the duration of the current water supply crisis. Similarly, we ask owners of private cars to refrain from washing them for the moment.

Customers should be aware that unlike some other utilities, water distribution systems cannot be operated and managed to the point where the exact locations and precise times at which the effects of pressure alternations (both increases and decreases) will be experienced, however we do make every effort to ensure that the times and areas effected are limited to those mentioned above.

We would like to thank people for their patience and cooperation and we would ask that people report locations where they see water running/rising  to the contacts given below.

Bogus callers may use the current water problems to gain access to houses. If a member of Dublin City Council calls to a property they will always carry and produce identification. If the caller asks you to check the flow of water at the taps, close the door fully while you do so. If you are in any doubt do not allow access.
