Day 2 of the campaign – we canvass.

Up early for Doctor’s appointment.

In to the office to work on some Council and Area Committee issues following our meetings on Monday. When I ran in the locals I had basically given up my job in Vienna so I had nothing to do but campaign. This time it’s different, I have to balance my campaigning with all my work as a Councillor. Adds another layer to it.

The day becomes an office day. Mix of phonecalls to constituents re local issues and people I need to meet in the next few days. Draft a press release.

Afternoon spent on operational and logistical issues. Sign off on a few things. Good to make decisions. Meeting in office follows with one of the team.

Then off to canvass – my first as a candidate. I actually haven’t been door to door since before Christmas and, like everything, I’m a little rusty. But we soon slip in to a rhythm. It’s interesting, people still aren’t focussed on the election proper. Still they are keen to vent their rage against the government. Good to be back on the doors but campaign will be tough in the dark.

Walk home, turn off phone and put on dinner. Still a couple of hours work to do so want to get a bit of down time first.
