Creative idea for school space problem

Posted June 10th, 2011

Ronan Kenny is a recent graduate of the UCD School of Architecture and a local resident. For his final thesis project, he undertook an urban study of Donnybrook and made a proposal for a new primary school and community hall in the village centre. Located on an unoccupied corner site opposite Kiely’s, the building would provide a focal point for the community and accommodate local events, continuing education and public meetings. The primary school classrooms would be placed along the crescent with a relationship to the existing terraced housing. The carpark would become a playspace and urban square with a connection to the historic cemetery. It is a hypothetical study carried out for the purposes of a university exam but it poses an interesting solution to some of the issues facing the continual development of Donnybrook centre.
