Oral hearings have begun
An Bord Pleanala yesterday began its oral hearing in to the proposed works to be carried out at the Ringsend Wastewater Treatment plant.
I was in attendance to support the local residents and also to put on the record my own concerns regarding the process. I stated that I was principally concerned that the development would not be authorised without a rigorous assessment of the justification for the development in light of the strategic need for it, and also stated my support for a very rigorous assessment of the environmental impact statement submitted, particularly in light of the acknowledged and well known operational failures experienced over the past decade. I drew particular attention to the modelled discharge patterns and scientific testing of effluent emissions in to the bay, and stressed the importance that this modelling be robustly tested. Dublin bay has a number of protected habitats and waters and we must ensure that these are properly protected.
