Harcourt Terrace to become Arts Centre?

Posted November 21st, 2012

Three arts organisations could move into the Harcourt Terrace Police Station before the end of the year.

As part of the budget last year, Minister Alan Shatter announced that he would be rationalising the number of Garda Stations around the country. Some stations were closed to ensure that more Gardaí could be kept on the streets in our communities. In Dublin City, Harcourt Terrace Police Station was one of the stations closed.

For those who do not know the building, the picture above gives an idea of it attractive appearance.

I have received numerous representations from constituents, concerned that this building might fall into disrepair. I have been in correspondence with the Office of Public Works in relation to the plan for the building and they have been actively working on identifying suitable occupants for this premises.

I have been informed by Minister Hayes, responsible for the Office of Public Works, that it is planned that three arts organisations will be re-located from Dublin Castle to this building before the end of the year. This is very welcome news for the area.
