Speaking on the Local Government Bill 2013 this week, I addressed the following elements of the Bill:

– The devolution of powers to local government and taking TDs out of the local equation

– The democratic deficit at the local level eg. the Poolbeg Incinerator

– Keeping 80% of property tax payments in the local area

– Reforming the commercial rates system

– The need to reverse the decision on sizes of local electoral areas

– The work of Dublin Chamber of Commerce in promoting Dublin

– The need for a directly elected Mayor for Dublin
