Footbridge closure at Beaver Row
Posted October 9th, 2014
Due to much needed works, the footbridge at Beaver Row will be closed until further notice.
Beaver Row Footbridge spans the River Dodder in Donnybrook approximately 100 metres upstream or west of the Stillorgan Road (N11) . It is a two span truss bridge with “ lattice “ type truss members forming parapet railings , which are in wrought iron material . The bridge was constructed circa 1880 and is a listed protected structure in Dublin City Council Development Plan 2011 -2017.
A Part 8 planning process with regard to the restoration and refurbishment of the bridge commenced in July 2014 and is currently still under way. In parallel with the planning process, Dublin City Council appointed Roughan & O Donovan Consulting Engineers to provide professional services with regard to the Planning , Design , Procurement , and Contract Supervision of the Works . As part of the design process a detailed inspection of the bridge using a crane was carried out . Arising from this inspection the design consultants have advised that the bridge should be closed until temporary repairs are carried out.
In the light of this advice immediate arrangements have been made to close the bridge. An evaluation will be made in the coming weeks to determine what measures may be implemented to allow the bridge to be reopened.
