Bike parking audit
Posted November 27th, 2015A group was set up through Dublin City Council this year to combat bike theft. The group comprises representatives from the National Transport Authority, Gardaí, DCC Traffic & Planning, Councillors and bike shops.
In a survey last year it was discovered that one third of all bike theft occurs in private complexes, mainly apartment blocks. This is largely due to inadequate bike parking areas.
The group would like to inspect bike parking facilities in private complexes to show planners and Councillors the extent of the problem, and to encourage action be taken in terms of providing better bike storage in new developments and potentially retro-fitting existing ones.
They hope to reduce bike theft, encourage bike use and end the need for residents to bring bikes up to their apartments.
They will be doing a tour next week. If you live in a private complex in the Dublin City Council area and think you could arrange access for the group to visit, please email David from the Dublin Cycling campaign – davidtimoney@yahoo.com. For more information about his group go here.
