Sandymount Green Clean up

Sandymount wins Tidy Towns Award

Posted September 11th, 2012
Yesterday Sandymount was awarded the Urban Village Award by the Irish Planning Institute. A culmination of 3 years hard work by local residents resulted in this prize. It began when locals came together with Dublin City Council, The Heritage Council and formed a steering committee for a Village Design Statement for Sandymount.

I was fortunate to sit on that committee alongside Cllr Maria Parodi when I was on the Council (it was also a great personal interest of mine because I grew up on the Green).

After numerous meetings over the course of more than 12 months, the committee produced a Village Design Statement for Sandymount (to view the Village Design Statement click here). During this process, public consultations were held with locals to ensure the community were involved in the project. With thanks to the effort of the whole community, the document was officially launched by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht affairs, and Cllr Maria Parodi on the 17th of September 2011 (read about it here).

In publishing this document the committee suggested a number of spin off projects from the work that already had been done – one was the Tidy Towns initiative that began earlier this year (and had local pols doing their bit clearing cable ties from lampposts!).

The group have been meeting regularly every Saturday morning to take care of our village and yesterday their hard work was officially recognised by the Irish Planning Institute.

It really is a great achievement and a fantastic demonstration of what a community can do when they come together and dedicate themselves to their local area.

Ranelagh office redevelopment 30.08.12

New Developments in Ranelagh

Posted August 30th, 2012
By now you are probably aware that my office in Ranelagh has closed and that  redevelopment of the entire Jason’s Pool Hall site has begun. I am currently in the process of moving in to a new office, which I had hoped would be up and running in the Village from September, but this is looking less likely at the moment.

My understanding is that Jason’s Pool Hall site (including my old office, the old post office and newsagents) will become a new Lidl supermarket, though this has not been confirmed. The above image is what the new development should look like, with supermarket at ground level and offices above. Serendipity, Paddy Power and Cupcakes are not part of the redevelopment and will remain open for business as usual.

My office in Leinster House continues to function as normal.  If you need to talk to me at any time please do get in touch. You can contact me in any number of ways:

You can call me on (01) 618 3324, email me on eoghan.murphy@oir.ie, social media me through Facebook, Twitter (MurphyEoghan) and LinkedIn, or write to me at Leinster House, Kildare St, Dublin 2.

I look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

Eoghan

The Omega Three Return Triumphant

Posted August 29th, 2012
Congratulations to The Royal College of Surgeon’s Ireland team who achieved second place in Go Help’s Mongolia Charity Rally.
Over 4000 miles and many adventures later, third year RCSI medical students Robin McManus, Grant Dawson and Tristram Hills, who took part in the rally this summer, have returned to Ireland.
The team left Ireland on the evening of 6th July and made it to Ulan Bator some 5 weeks later. Their journey took them through Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and Russia before reaching the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar.
Great bunch of lads and a very cool project for them to get involved in. They kept everyone back home up to date with a really entertaining video log on their facebook page, take look: http://www.facebook.com/TheOmegaThree
Art and Culture in Dublin

As part of Dublin City Council’s development of a new Arts and Culture Plan for the City, Green Hat has been engaged to find out what is important to those who live and work in or visit Dublin. Focusing on two areas of the City – the North West and the South East, this consultation will ask what is important in arts and culture, what is missing and what are the key priorities.

We would like to arrange conversational workshops in order to seek out views and ideas and are looking for host organisations willing to gather together small groups of people who would like to take part. Groups of 6 – 12 would be ideal for no more than 1 hour, perhaps tying in with scheduled group activities already taking place. The workshops will be very informal and a contribution can be made towards room hire and refreshments if required.

The Green Hat team would like to schedule workshops on 22nd – 23rd August, 12th – 13th September and 19th – 20th September 2012.

A short survey also available to complete online and should take no longer than 10 minutes. You can also download a printable version as well.

Access the Online Survey here.
