Transport changes in the city

Posted May 16th, 2011

As part of my work as a Councillor I engaged with Dublin Bus frequently concerning their plans to update the route network. Many concerns about routes in Dublin South East were brought to my attention by you the public. Recently I held a meeting with Dublin Bus to discuss these concerns. You can find the details below.

If you have any further queries please get in touch with me or your local Councillors Paddy McCartan and Edie Wynne.

Number 128

The 128 will amalgamate with the no. 15, so it will go up Rathgar Road to Rathmines – it will no longer go along Rathmines Road Upper. But…

Number 14

There is a proposal to combine 14 and the 14a, which will travel along Rathmines Road Upper instead of the 128. It will provide a service every 10/15 minutes at peak times and every 20 minutes off peak. There will be 7 buses per hour serving people in Rathmines which will go into town.

Number 10

The number 10 bus has been stopped. On the southside the route is now serviced by two routes, the 46a and the 39a.

Number 11

The 11a and 11b are going to be cancelled. The 11 will terminate in Sandyford, with greater frequency.

Number 18

The number 18 will now connect Sandymount to the docklands by travelling across the east link. This allows passengers access to the Luas and Spencer Dock train station.  Sandymount Green will no longer be the terminus.

Number 77a

The proposal to have the 77a terminate on College Green is to be reviewed following representation by residents.

Number 2 and 3

The number 2 and 3 will be amalgamated. It will now provide a service from UCD to Sydney Parade to Mountjoy Square.

Palmerston Park Bus Shelter

Dublin Bus is currently tendering for all new bus shelters;  this factor combined with changes to routes has delayed the replacement shelter at Palmerston Park bus stop.

Bus Terminals

The 37, 38, 39, and 70 buses now terminate on Burlington Road. This is a temporary terminal, a permanent terminal is planned for Wilton Terrace.

GE11-Same Sex Marriage – Notice

Posted February 24th, 2011

There’s been a lot of discussion relating to same sex marriage over the past few days – so to clarify, my view is that the state should not discriminate against people based on their sexuality.

Homosexual couples should be allowed to marry.

Water restrictions – latest

Posted January 17th, 2011

DCC Water Restrictions  (as of 13.00 Monday 17th January 2011)

Due to the continued improvement in drinking water storage levels and in the water supply/demand balance, a further easing of restrictions is now possible.

There will be no shuts imposed tonight (Monday 17th January) or tomorrow night (Tuesday 18th January).  There will be a general pressure reduction across the city and this will be restricted in most cases to the over night period so as to minimise the impact on consumers.

The situation will be further reviewed on Wednesday morning and a decision made at that stage as to what regime of shuts/pressure restrictions will be needed for the rest of the week.

At this stage Dublin City Council would like to thank all its consumers for their patience and cooperation during the period of the restrictions.

Broken mains are being found and fixed and this is helping to improve the situation. Many of these have been reported by members of the public and we ask that people continue to assist us in this regard (contact details are given below), as well as by reducing their consumption of water in every possible way. Updated details of the restrictions through to Wednesday (19th Jan) morning are set out below.

The restrictions are being reviewed on an ongoing basis and alterations are made where possible so as to minimise the impact on consumers.

A large number of internal leaks have already been identified on properties; we would ask all property owners to check for leaks on their property as soon as is possible, bearing in mind that some leaks may not be visible.

Dublin City Council appeals to the owners/operators of car washes which use mains water to discontinue their use for the duration of the current water supply crisis. Similarly, we ask owners of private cars to refrain from washing them for the moment.

The following locations may experience loss of supply due to localised problems.

  Blackhall Place
  Gilford Road/Park Avenue

Kilmainham

  Crampton Square
  Bride St

Martin’ s Row

Erne St Little

We would like to thank people for their patience and cooperation and we would ask that people report locations where they see water running/rising to the contacts given below.

Bogus callers may use the current water problems to gain access to houses. If a member of Dublin City Council calls to a property they will always carry and produce identification. If the caller asks you to check the flow of water at the taps, close the door fully while you do so. If you are in any doubt do not allow access.

The water supply situation continues to improve and drinking water storage levels have recovered to such an extent that it is allowing a further easing of the restrictions.

A reduced number of shuts will be imposed tonight (Friday 14th January).  On Saturday and Sunday night no shuts will be imposed and only pressure restrictions will be in place in a number of areas.

The situation will be further reviewed on Monday morning and a decision made at that stage as to what regime of shuts/pressure restrictions will be needed for next week.

DCC Water Restrictions  (as of 13.00 Wednesday 12th January 2011)

The water supply situation continues to improve and drinking water storage levels have recovered sufficiently to allow an easing of the restrictions.

Areas subject to ‘shut offs’ will now be rotated with supply being maintained one night in three.  The period for shuts continues at 7pm to 7am.  Areas subject to ‘Pressure reductions with possible loss of supply’ will also have the restrictions eased, as a result the number of areas loosing supply will reduce and the periods of low pressures will also reduce.

Broken mains are being found and fixed and this is helping to improve the situation. Many of these have been reported by members of the public and we ask that people continue to assist us in this regard (contact details are given below), as well as by reducing their consumption of water in every possible way. DCC Water Restrictions  (as of 13.00 Monday 10th January 2011)

Much improvement was made to drinking water storage levels in the city’s reservoirs over the weekend.  Schools and colleges have returned this morning following their holidays and their impact on the overall demand will be monitored over the coming days.  Restrictions will continue to be imposed for the next two nights while this monitoring is ongoing, however depending on how the network responds, we would hope to be in a position to start lifting the restrictions, on a phased basis later in the week.

Broken mains are being found and fixed and this is helping to improve the situation. Many of these have been reported by members of the public and we ask that people continue to assist us in this regard (contact details are given below), as well as by reducing their consumption of water in every possible way.
